Recently, there is one interesting fact discovered by researchers. Great Wall of China turned out to be longer than previously expected. Similarly, the first survey was published to ensure the long ancient wall.

Government mapping studies over the past two years found that the wall length is 8850 km. In fact, the length of the wall was usually referred to around 5,000 km. Previous estimates, the length is based on historical records.

State media says, infrared technology and GPS to help locate some areas that are hidden by a sandstorm. The project found that the wall along the 6259 km, 359 km moat, and 2232 km of natural defenses such as hills and rivers. The study was conducted by the Institute for Cultural Heritage and the Bureau of Surveying and Mapping.


The experts say, the newly discovered wall built during Diansti Sun (1368-1644), and stretches from the Mountains Hu in northern Liaoning Province to the Jiayu Cracks in Gansu province in western China.

The project will continue for another 18 months to map sections of the wall built during the Qin Dynasty (221-206BC) and Han Dynasty (206BC-9AD). The wall that is building the world's largest man-made built to protect the northern borders of the Empire of China.

Archaeologists had lobbied for the survey in order to provide the experts with an accurate understanding of the construction of the wall. In China, the wall is known as the "long wall of 10,000 Li".

Great Wall of China is nothing other than a series of walls and the work that began in the 5th century and was first linked under the Qin Shi Huang around 220 BC. Wall of China was listed by UNESCO as world heritage site in 1987.
